Song translation
Written by Wei-Jing Zhu
I am inspire to translate songs as the best way to use my talents. Book translation is a big task, and in comparison song translation is much smaller in scale, and can reach the heart more powerfully.

We are all sensitive to what can reaches the heart and touch it deeply: they are usually the simplest things in life.

Xiaomin's songs, Canaan Hymns, is from a simple and pure girl who has not been diluted or distracted by modern issues, can focus on the simple things from a country side, which can touch the soul more directly. Indeed this was how Jesus had taught - using simple everyday object lessons that peasants can relate to, down to earth.

An attempt at Canaan Hymn 2 lyrics:
All walk the path of your suffering, all experience your pain
Not to worry,
mourn over your losses like tears
busily labor your toil
the sun behold the earth, the roots reach for the soil
you hold me and I hold you, handheld together we walk.

China's suffering church
Everyone can forget sorrows and drown out pain with wine, denying the reality of suffering, and go celebrate and shout slogans and march, yet few in this world can face pain and suffering straight on. The church in China has done exactly this, showing the world how to confront suffering.

As the Western church has given us the mind, and the Korean church taught us passion. Chinese church taught us how to suffer.

Actions and Implementations
  • New Hope Praise night to feature intercultural praise songs with translation.
  • Convert hymns and praise songs into various musical styels of different cultures, and see if they have the impact of the original language.
